Give Proteax a spin...

You can try a subset of Proteax's functions via the Proteax Live web site. The web site uses Proteax Desktop which is the foundation for Proteax for Spreadsheets.

The Biochemfusion demo client allows you to test the latest production release of the Proteax Cartridge which runs inside an Oracle database. You can search and update the demo protein database which consists of a few hundred uploads from UniProt as well as a few examples of well-known human proteins and biopharmaceuticals. Thanks to Proteax all proteins can be edited in any of the supported protein formats (UniProt, GPMAW, FASTA and Protein Line Notation) and extracted as MDL molfiles.

To familiarize yourself with the demo client and get a quick introduction to PLN you can use the online quick guide.

Demo client download

Please download the client package, using the link to the left, to an appropriate directory (e.g. your Desktop) and run it. It is a self-extracting archive that unpacks the Biochemfusion demo client files, creates a desktop shortcut, and starts the demo application. Your system settings or configuration will not be modified in any way. The client configures itself - and only itself - on startup.

Note for Linux® users: The application runs without major issues under Wine (tested on Kubuntu 7.04 and later Ubuntu versions). Adventurous Mac users may try the Mac version of Wine - your mileage may vary.

Client screen shots

The client connects directly to the Biochemfusion demo server located at the Biochemfusion company premises. Both European and US users have tested the client to make sure that performance is acceptable even over high-latency lines.

Below you can see an example of browsing through the list of registered proteins.

Right-clicking or double-clicking a protein will let you edit the entry and its project assignment.

Server hardware

The demo server is a standard 1.8 GHz dual-core DELL laptop which provides plenty of horsepower since Proteax neither consumes much RAM nor CPU. The server runs Ubuntu 8.04 server with Oracle® Express Edition plus Proteax 1.1.
